Lotta Happonen

Lotta Happonen is an Associate Professor and Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab) group leader in Experimental Infection Medicine at Lund University. Her research interests focus on understanding molecular interactions between host and pathogen with a specific focus on the complement system and the innate immune system more broadly. Her research integrates advanced structural biology methods, including cryoEM, cross-linking, and hydrogen-deuterium exchange mass spectrometry, with quantitative mass spectrometry to advance our understanding of the molecular basis of bacterial infections. Theese combined approaches in structural infection medicine advances our understanding of the structure of host-pathogen protein complexes, with the aim of providing novel interfaces to target for diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic opportunities.
